Description
Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) combined with a well-controlled ion mill is applied for the study of nitrogen implanted into Fe(001) single crystal and iron polycrystalline samples. Chemical information is extracted from both, the N/sub KLL/ Auger and N(1s) XPS spectra. Results obtained prove that not all the implanted nitrogen is in a strong nitride bonding. (author)
