Shielding considerations and design of a set up for on-line determination of aluminium in bauxite ore using activation analysis with Am-Be neutron source
Description
A system for on-line determination of aluminium in bauxite ore using activation analysis method with 5 Ci Am241-Be neutron source has been developed at UFPE. Shielding considerations were established for internal and external radiation is this set up. In view of the complicated geometry of the set up, simple methods have been employed in the design and analysis, with a view to improve signal to noise ratio for aluminium detection. Required thicknesses of shielding material, separation between various components, streaming effect etc. have been established for the set up. (Author)

Um sistema para determinacao continua de aluminio em minerio de bauxita pelo metodo de analise por ativacao foi desenvolvido na UFPE utilizando uma fonte de Am241-Be de 5 Ci. Consideracoes de blindagem para as fontes externas e internas da montagem foram estabelecidas. Tendo em vista a geometria complicada do sistema, metodos simplificados foram utilizados no projeto e analise para melhorar a razao sinal-ruido na detecao de aluminio. Espessuras necessarias para materiais de blindagem, separacao entres os diversos componentes, efeito de streaming, etc, foram estabelecidos no projeto. (Autor)Additional details
