Description
The system of the principal axes of the ellipsoid of inertia are used to study the shape of the distribution of the nucleon density and of quadrupole deformations of atomic nuclei. The effective nonsphericity and nonaxiality of light nuclei are calculated in the translationally invariant shell model. It is shown that p and sd shell nuclei (including the magic ones) have a considerable effective deformation in the frame of the principal axes of inertia
