Investigation of combined electron beam method for surface hardening of steels

  • 1. Fizika-tehkhnichny inst., Natsyyanal'naya akadehmiya navuk Belarusi, Minsk (Belarus)

Description

The new duplex method is developed for surface hardening of steels which includes thermochemical saturation and subsequent rapid electron beam heating of the surface. Electron beam treatment of a siliconized, boronized, carbazide and nitrocarburized layers results in a significant increase in hardness and alloyed layer depth. For instance, the hardness of the boronized layer can be increased from 10 GPa up to 16 to 18 GPa. The total diffusion layer depth reaches up to 1.8 to 2 mm. Such transformations in the alloyed layers allow the efficient improvement in surface properties of parts
