Description
In counting measurements where a background has to be subtracted, serious difficulties of interpretation have arisen when the standard deviation of the resulting difference has been comparable with or larger than the true counting rate from the source being measured. Practical methods of calculation are described to make use of solutions to this problem given in a previous paper. (orig.)
