A continuous wave millimeter free electron laser experiment with a Cockroft-Walton accelerator and electron beam recovery
Description
A CW FEL in the cm-mm region, which is presently being assembled at the Laboratory Nazionali di Legnaro, is described. The accelerator is a Cockroft-Walton with a charging current of 5 mA and a circulating current of 3 A at 700 keV. The electron beam is embedded inside a composed solenoidal field from the cathode to the collector. The accelerator's collector is multistage, with efficiency of about 70 percent. The undulator is of permanent magnet type with Halbach configuration, having a filling factor of 0.87; the waveguide is rectangular and is overmoded with corrugations at the ends. 15 refs
