Sequelli and complications of irradiation of mammary carcinomas
Description
Doses of 6000 to 6500 rads to the supra- and subclavicular regions are an extreme limit which should not be exceed (the three cases of serious complications previously cited had received doses of 6000 to 7500 rads). With the technique used before 1969, doses of 6000 to 6500 rads to the supra- and sub-clavicular regions were not given as thought, but in reality a lesser dose of 5000 to 5500 rads. In addition this dose is revealed in the analysis to be sufficient for controlling the majority of lymph nodes microscopically invaded and at the same time permitting to avoid serious complications. All the sequelli and serious complications follow principally irradiation of the axillary and supra-clavicular regions
Abstract (French)
Des doses de 6000 a 6500 rads au niveau des regions sus et sous-claviculaires sont une extreme limite a ne pas depasser (les trois cas de complications graves observes avaient recu des doses d'etalant entre 6000 et 7500 rads). Avec la technique anterieure a 1969, on ne distribuait par 6000 a 6500 rads aux regions sus et sous-claviculaires comme on le pensait, mais en realite une dose inferieure comprise entre 5000 et 5500 rads. D'ailleurs, cette dose s'est revelee a l'analyse suffisante pour controler la plupart des micro-envahissements ganglionnaires tout en permettant d'eviter des complications graves.
