The diagnosis of aortic rupture by digital subtraction angiography

Description

The typical signs of the rupture of the thoracic aorta in the chest radiographs of patients with this injury are shown. Because all these signs lack specifity only angiography was diagnostic till now. Digital subtraction angiography (dsa) as a new diagnostic procedure can replace invasive angiography. In four cases the rupture of the aorta was clearly diagnosed by means of digital subtraction angiography. In three additional cases it could be definitely exluded. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Anhand der vorhandenen Roentgenbilder von Patienten mit gesicherter Aortenruptur werden die Zeichen der Ruptur im Thoraxuebersichtsbild dargestellt. Da alle diese Zeichen unspezifisch sind, kann eine Diagnosesicherung bislang nur mittels Angiographie erfolgen. Die digitale Subtraktionsangiographie (DSA) als neues diagnostisches Verfahren kann die invasive Angiographie ersetzen. In vier Faellen konnte mit der DSA eine Aortenruptur eindeutig diagnostiziert werden. In weiteren drei Faellen liess sie sich sicher ausschliessen. (orig.)
