Buoyancy effects and mixing in a small scale water model of an LMFBR above-core plenum

  • 1. UKAEA Risley Nuclear Power Development Labs.

Description

Measurements of the mixing and transport parameters from a water model of the hot pool of a sodium-cooled fast reactor are presented. The effects of buoyancy on the mixing are tested by using brine to simulate the temperature-induced density variations which occur during reactor transients. The results show that negatively buoyant jets decrease pool mixing, while positively buoyant jets increase mixing. (author)
