Neutrino-nucleus interactions: charged current interactions at line E of LAMPF
Description
This paper describes the progress and capabilities of E764 at LAMPF's Line E decay-in-flight neutrino source to measure the ν/sub μ/+12C → μ-+X cross section. A small amount of data has been taken and analyzed and, although no physics conclusions can be made with this amount of data, techniques to separate signal from background have been successfully developed. From 7 x 1018 protons on target, we have observed 16 charged current candidates, 12% of which we estimate are background. By August 1986 we expect to have 25 to 50 times more events
