Keeping track of materials

A computer system has been installed to record the processing of all nuclear materials at the recently opened Mixed Oxide Demonstration Facility at British Nuclear Fuel's Sellafield site. The system complies with international regulations on the accounting of nuclear materials which cover the amount of fissile material held at the plant, its movement, traceability information, production details, material weights and safety data. The main features of the system are described. These include data entry and quality assurance, data validity, software design and documentation development. (UK)
