Dynamics of initial stage of breakdown formation in mixtures of nitrogen and sulfur hexafluoride in a nonuniform gap

  • 1. V.I. Lenin All-Union Electrical Engineering Institute, Moscow (USSR)

Description

An experimental study is made of the temporal optical and electrical characteristics of the prebreakdown stage of a pulsed discharge in mixtures of nitrogen and sulfur hexafluoride as the concentration of the latter is varied from 0.001 to 1% in a rod-plane gap at pressures ranging from 0.1 to 0.4 MPa. A model is proposed for calculating the propagation velocity of the plasma channel which yields values in agreement with the corresponding experimental measurements at SF6 concentration approx-lt 0.001%
