Preparing for decommissioning the B29 fuel cooling pond and the B6 chimney at Windscale
Description
This article covers two projects carried out by WasteChem, a division of BBN Environmental Management Limited, on the Pile complex at Sellafield. The projects were the blocking of the Pile 1 air outlet ducts and installation of a temporary extract ventilation system and the blocking of the fuel transfer ducts between Piles 1 and 2 and the B29 pond. The projects required developments from conventional techniques and technology to suit the particular and restrictive requirements of working in and around Pile 1 and B29 pond. (author)
