Motion of a pulse intense ion beam in a sector torus magnetic field

  • 1. Osaka City Univ. (Japan). Research Inst. for Atomic Energy

Description

A long-pulse-intense ion beam (protons. ∼ 3 kA, ∼ 50 keV, ∼ 400 ns) was projected along the magnetic field line into a sector torus with a straight section (90 deg sector, 37.5 cm torus radius, 9.4 cm chamber diameter). The motion of the intense ion beam was measured by damage paper and a biased ion collector. A large part of the ion beam was transported through the sector torus when a magnetic field of 0.8 T was applied. The motion of the pulse intense ion beam could be approximated by calculations involving the motion of a single particle in a toroidal magnetic field. (author)
