Ultrasonic flaw sizing using performance demonstration specimens

  • 1. Korea Plant Service and Engineering Co., Ltd., Sungnam (Korea, Republic of)

Description

It is not easy for examiners to detect and evaluate the flaws such as the thermal fatigue cracks and intergranular stress corrosion cracks in pipings which were installed in nuclear power plant without special concerns and attentions due to weld configurations and characteristics. For the exact detection and evaluation of the flaws such as thermal fatigue cracks and intergranular stress corrosion cracks in performance demonstration specimens, in this paper, several ultrasonic techniques including ultrasonic mode conversion technique were introduced in details and the result of flaw sizing using several ultrasonic techniques was compared by experiment.
