Description
The defence in depth concept provides a major contribution to the safety philosophy of gamma and electron irradiation facilities. The defence in depth general concept is easy to understand but redundancy, diversity and independence concepts are not so easy to understand or teach because practical examples in Safety Series 107 or other IAEA publications are lacking. This paper tries to fill up this information gap providing some practical examples about the three specific concepts, mentioned above, for category IV gamma irradiation facilities (industrial gamma irradiators).
