Features of slowed-down fracture of welded joints of high-strength medium-alloy steels

Description

Effect of hydrogen and structural factors on the cold crack formation in HAZ of 30KhN2MFA steel welded joints and a slowed-down fracture mechanism at different development stages have been studied. It is established that cold cracks in HAZ of welded joints of the split off type can be formed both at 20 deg C and an elevated temperature (∼ 350 deg C). Diffusive-moving hydrogen (≤ 0.15 cm3 per 100 g metal) decreases sharply resistance to the delayed fracture. Structural difference of HAZ metal of the 30KhN2MFA type steels is insignificant in the cooling rate ranges of 10-40 deg C/s and doesn't affect its resistance to the slowed-down fracture
