Sodium cooled fast reactor development in Korea

Description
A fast reactor system is one of the most promising options for a reduction of radioactive wastes as well as electricity generation with an efficient utilization of uranium resources. The long-term plan for Advanced SFR development was authorized by Korean Atomic Energy Commission in 2008 and updated in 2011, which will be carried out toward the construction of an Advanced SFR prototype plant by 2028. Based upon the experiences gained during the development of the conceptual designs for KALIMER, KAERI has carried out the conceptual design of SFR prototype plant in 2012. The development of the Advanced SFR technologies and the basic key technologies necessary for its commercialization has also been being carried out. (author)
