XRD Analysis for Morphine Content in Poppy Seed of Papaver Somifeium L
Description
Poppy seeds are regarded as free of narcotic alkaloids or morphine. Some publications report that seeds contain no narcotic substances. So these are exempted from international and national control. Illicit transportation of poppy seed (unroasted) were seized occasionally and samples were taken for analysis. Papaya Bracteatun was substituted cultivation for Papaver Simniferum because its contains thebaine as major alkaloid without morphine in literature. XRD is routinely analysed for mostly inorganic and minerals qualitatively, and quantity is not much published. XRD analysis can be done qualitatively and quantitatively for morphine (organic) and results are comparable to HPLC results. (author)
