Stabilization method for radioactive waste
Description
A small amount of sodium carbonate is added to condensed radioactive liquid wastes. Carbonic ions are precipitated as calcium carbonates by slaked lime or quick lime and C-14 present in the condensed liquid wastes in a soluble state as sodium carbonate is converted together into less soluble carbonates. They are dried and then applied with plastic solidification. With such a constitution, even if the solidification product of the radioactive wastes are brought into contact with water after final processing, they are not transferred to carbonic ion water in the solidification product of wastes. Accordingly, C-14 contained in the carbonic ions is not transferred to water, but most of them is remained in the solidification products. (T.M.)
