Determination of plant biomass by means of beta and gamma radiation

Description
Three methods of non-contact determination of the biomass by means of radiation are presented. A procedure is described for determining the density of vegetation by measuring the attenuation of gamma radiation and that of a few plants or of leaves by beta radiation attenuation measurements. Calibration and conversion allow to determine the biomass and to draw conclusions with regard to growth intensity and to changes in plant and leaf hydrature. (author)
