Stereotactic proton therapy for intracranial arteriovenous malformations
- 1. Tsukuba Univ., Ibaraki (Japan). Proton Medical Research Center
Description
Twenty five patients with intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) have been treated with Bragg-peak proton therapy. Treated volume ranged from 1.1 to 47.2 cm3 (mean 10.1cm3). All but one patients were stereotactically irradiated with single doses ranging from 15.2 to 21.3 Gy at 80-85% isodose contours. Complete obliteration on follow-up angiograms was observed in 6 of 18 patients at 1 year, 6 of 10 at 2 years, and 7 of 7 at 3 years. Our early experience support the efficacy of protons for the treatment of AVMs. (author)
