Investigation and realization at the Saclay linear accelerator of a line from a tagged photon beam bremsstrahlung in a wide energy range: Application to the measurement of the total cross section of the photofission (γ, f) of uranium 238
Description
A monochromatic tagged photon facility is described. The source is produced by tagging the photons from a continuous bremsstrahlung spectrum resulting from a monoenergetic electron beam traversing a thin target. A magnetic spectrometer is used to detect and measure the energy of the tagged electrons associated with the tagged photons. Tagging system characteristics include: 16 adjacent paths; a tagged energy range equal to 20% to 80% of the energy of the electrons of the incident beam; a constant relative resolution of the tagged energy bands equal to ±4%. The acquisition system is described and an example of the use of the system (measurement of the total cross section of photofission of U238 between 20 and 120 MeV) is shown. Tests show that the system can cover a range of monochromatic photon energy from 12 to 176 MeV, divided into 32 energy bands, with only two adjustements to the accelerator

Une ''source'' de photons monochromatiques sur une large plage en energie, actuellement utilisee pour l'etude des reactions photonucleaires, est decrit dans ce memoire. Elle est obtenue en utilisant la methode de l'etiquetage des photons d'un spectre continu de rayonnement de freinage produit lors de la traversee d'une cible mince par un faisceau d'electrons monoenergetiques. L'etude de ce spectrometre fait l'objet de la premiere partie de ce memoire. Nous y examinons plus particulierement les caracteristiques du plan image ou se fait la detection des electrons etiquettes. Les caracteristiques principales du systeme d'etiquetage sont: 16 voies d'etiquetage contigues; une plage d'energie etiquetee de 20 a 80% de l'energie des electrons du faisceau incident; une resolution relative des bandes d'energie etiquetees constante, egale a ±4%. La deuxieme partie est consacree a la presentation du systeme d'acquisition et a l'utilisation du systeme d'etiquetage. Un exemple d'application est presente: la mesure de la section efficace totale de photofission de l'Uranium 238 entre 20 et 120 MeVFiles
