Chaotic scattering in a driven Coulomb potential: asymptotic behaviour

  • 1. CEA Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Grenoble, 38 (France). Dept. de Recherche Fondamentale

Description

Chaotic scattering of an electron in an unscreened Coulomb field with a superimposed oscillatory electric field is analysed in a classical mechanics framework. Spatial motion is restricted to one dimension, yielding two-dimensional Poincare or asymptotic planes. Emphasis is put on the asymptotic properties of the chaotic scattering process: deflection functions, inelastic cross sections, iterated scattering map. The scattering process in the long range unscreened Coulomb potential is described without any ambiguity using an as large as possible free motion integrable Hamiltonian. (author)
