Looking back with some pride - a manufacturers' view on 3 decades of nuclear power plant construction in the Federal Republic of Germany

May 5, 1955 - the day on which the Treaty of Paris entered into force - was a decisive date for the development of nuclear engineering and for the power-plant construction industry in the Federal Republic of Germany, too: the 1946 laws of the Allied Forces Control Council were repealed; ten years after the end of World War II, research and development in this field of science were possible again in our country. For lack of space, the following article cannot cover the total of the last 30 years of German nuclear power plant construction in as much a comprehensive and unbiassed way as possible; there were just too many pathways with their ups and downs milestoned by expectations and disappointments, by success and setback. Therefore, our look into the past can only highlight a few milestones to represent the many. (orig.)

Der 5. Mai 1955 - Tag des Inkrafttretens der Pariser Vertraege - war auch fuer die Entwicklung der Nukleartechnik und fuer die kraftwerkbauende Industrie in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ein entscheidendes Datum: Die Kontrollratsgesetze von 1946 traten damit ausser Kraft; in unserem Land durfte, zehn Jahre nach Kriegsende, auf diesem Gebiet der Naturwissenschaft wieder geforscht und entwickelt werden. - Es ginge weit ueber den Rahmen des folgenden Beitrags hinaus, die vergangenen 30 Jahre deutschen Kernkraftwerkbaus auch nur annaehernd vollstaendig und ausgewogen darlegen zu wollen; zu vielfaeltig waren die Wege in ihren Hoehen und Tiefen, markiert durch Hoffnungen und Enttaeuschungen, Erfolge und Rueckschlaege. Der Blick zurueck kann deshalb nur einige Stationen - stellvertretend fuer viele andere - schlaglichtartig streifen. (orig.)Additional details
