Radiocarbon content variations in the atmosphere in the years 1950 to 1975 as shown by measurements of Georgian wine spirit radioactivity

  • 1. Tbilisskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR)

Description

The usefulness of wine spirits for the determination of radiocarbon variations in the atmosphere is discussed. The methodology of sample preparation and counting using a liquid scintillation spectrometer with benzene scintillator is briefly described. The results for the period 1950 to 1975 are presented showing that the mean residence time of the CO2 molecule in the atmosphere is 10.6+-0.2 yr. (author)
