Test of the HISPET prototype

Description
The test of a small version of the high spatial resolution positron emission tomograph (HISPET) is presented. The HISPET prototype consists of two 50* 50 cm2 multiwire proportional chambers with a 2 cm thick lead-glass drift space converter. A CAMAC acquisition system connected to a MAC II computer has been set up. Experimental data with a 22 Na pointlike source have been reconstructed with a 3-D filtered backprojection algorithm. A spatial resolution better than 9 mm (FWHM) and a quantitation capability at ± 10% have been measured
