Experience with the determination of tritium in the Research Institute of Water Management, of T. G. Masaryk, Prague

Long-term practice of determination the activity concentration of tritium in precipitation and surface waters in the Water Research Institute, T. G. Masaryk, v.v.i. in Prague was presented. There was evaluated development of tritium concentrations in surface waters affected and not impacted by discharges of waste water from nuclear power plants in the Czech territory. The assessment covers the effects of residual contamination of surface water by tritium after atmospheric tests of nuclear weapons in the past century, the natural resources of tritium and nuclear power plants outside the Czech Republic. Long-term monitoring of tritium volume activity in rivers not affected by wastewater of nuclear power plants was showed effective half-shedding of residual tritium content. Changes of tritium concentrations in precipitation at profiles without the direct influence of the nuclear facility were monitored. There was also evaluated the effect of waste water from the Temelin NPP on tritium content in the longitudinal profile of the Vltava River and Labe River in the section of Vltava River Hluboka - Zelcin and in closing profile of Labe River Hrensko for the period 2001 - 2015 and the Dukovany NPP in the longitudinal profile of the Jihlava River, Dyje River and Moravia River in the period 1995-2015.
