Description

The fragments of the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance (GQR) found in the (α, α') reaction on the nucleus 24Mg have been analysed by two different methods developed by previous authors. These methods permit one to determine the position, the spreading width and the strength of the simple structure state mixed into the more complicated neighbouring states by the coupling interaction. In this way the parameters of the GQR were determined: the position Esub(x) = 18.1 MeV, the spreading width GAMMA(down) = 3.0 MeV and the strength is 75% of the energy-weighted sum rule, in good agreement with both methods. The analysis of different reactions exciting the same energy region of the nucleus 24Mg has helped to clarify the question of the correlation between the different channels. (author)
