Heavy meson decays in a light-cone approach

Description
In this paper, the authors discuss the prospect of using the light-cone language to investigate decays of heavy mesons, i.e., mesons containing at least one heavy quark (or antiquark). Using approximate meson wave functions which satisfy QCD sum rules and the hard-scattering amplitudes which are obtained through the light-cone perturbation theory, we may apply the factorization theorem to treat problems that involve decay of a hadron into two or more hadrons, such as Bd0 → π+πminus. As example, we consider the bottom-meson decays Bd0 → π+Dminus and Bd0 → π+πminus through the spectator diagram, and find that, with a reasonable choice of the input parameters including the meson sizes and the quark masses, the observed decay rate on Bd0 → π+Dminus can be reproduced and a prediction on Γ(Bd0 → π+πminus) is obtained. Applications of the light cone approach to other heavy meson decays, together with possible uncertainties, are briefly discussed
