Description

Against the background of the 1995 review conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the surplus stocks of fissile material from the Former Soviet Union and US weapons programmes, there is mounting interest in the available options for longer-term management of these materials. This paper describes the relevance of technical approach and technologies developed by the commercial nuclear industry to reduction of the surplus plutonium weapons inventory. (author)
