Energy transfer in neon-xenon mixtures

  • 1. Toulouse-3 Univ., 31 (France)

Description

Spectroscopic and kinetic studies in mixtures of neon and xenon at pressures of a few hundred torr when excited by α-particles are described. The emitted radiation is analyzed from 110-300 nm covering the range of the principal atomic and molecular transitions in xenon. The problems involved in the production of power lasers are also presented. In the XeCl laser, for example, the gas is a mixture of neon and xenon, and the neon which is present as the principal component absorbs the excitation energy transferring it to the xenon through the formation of an exciplex state.
