Evaluations of radiation properties of gas media used in nuclear-pumped lasers

  • 1. Russian Federal Nuclear Center-Inst. of Technical Physics, Snezhinsk (Russian Federation)

Description

It is obvious that use of the neutron multiplicative blankets in fusion energetics is a digression from the concept of pure thermonuclear reactor. And if one is going to consider such projects, one should include the nuclear pumped lasers into the list of ones suitable for initiation of hybrid fusion-fission power reactor station. One of the principles at nuclear pumping of lasers is the excitation of active media by uranium fission fragments. The feature of nuclear-pumped laser gas media is the absence of aerosols, so the fission products are existing there only in the form of single atoms and molecules. To develop the necessary methods of protection from radiation for workers on researching of nuclear pumped laser and for development of design of powerful nuclear pumped laser for fusion energetics it was needed to understand physicochemical and radiation properties of laser gas media. So a series of experiments were carried out and the results of these are given in this work
