Effect of cation, concentration and pH on 56Mn retention in permanganate solutions
Description
The retention of 56Mn in > 10-2M aqueous, natural solutions of alkali and alkaline earth permanganates depends on the cation. It decreases with concentration and remains constant at 3.5 +- 1% in each system below 10-3M concentration. The much higher retention observed at pH 13 is due to the formation of a Mn2+ complex. The complex is not adsorbable on MnO2 and the rate constant of its dissociation is k approximately 7x10-2 min-1 at 25 deg C. (author)
