KamLAND: studying neutrinos from reactor
Description
The primary goal of KamLAND is a search for the oscillation of νe's emitted from distant power reactors. The long baseline, typically 180 km, enables kamLAND to address the oscillation solution of the 'solar neutrino problem with νe's under laboratory conditions. Previously, KamLAND announced the first evidence of νe disappearance, followed by direct evidence for neutrino oscillation by observing distortion of the reactor νe energy spectrum. More recently, kamLAND has demonstrated almost two cycles of the periodic feature expected neutrino oscillation, and determined a precise value for the neutrino oscillation parameter Δm212 and stringent constraints on θ12.
