Procedure for concentrating the radioactive waste solutions from nuclear power plants

Description

Pollutants such as oxalic, citric, tartaric acids and permanganates are removed, and the waste solution is treated with sodium and/or potassium hydroxide or with a strong mineral acid such as nitric acid. The solution so treated is evaporated to a salt concentration of 310 to 900 g/dm3. This concentrate is stable at temperatures up to 20 degC and can be stored for a year. No crystals or solids separate from the solution during storage, and no special equipment is needed. (M.D.)
