Computerized tomography of the pelvis

In establishing the primary diagnoses on pelvis diseases or traumatic consequences, conventional examination methods are still dominating. Computer tomography (CT) of the pelvis requires an exact indication for economical reasons, for reasons concerning radiation exposition and the limited resolving power. In cases of intrapelvic space-requiring processes with or without organs being connected and tumours of the connective tissue and the supporting tissue, however, CT can often provide additional information which cannot be achieved by other non-invasive methods. Taking into consideration the indications listed and knowing the limits and disadvantages of the method, pelvic CT is an excellent enrichment of the diagnostical spectrum. (orig.)
