Long-period irradiation test of the optical fiber, (3)

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Takasaki, Gunma. Takasaki Radiation Chemistry Research Establishment

Description

The low-OH, the high-OH pure quartz core optical fiber and the single-mode optical fiber were irradiated for long period at room temperature in high dose rate 1 x 106 R/h and low dose rate 1 x 102 R/h. Following are the results of in-situ loss increment measurements. (1) For a given radiation dose, the loss increment is far larger in the low dose rate in the whole wavelength region 600 nm - 1600 nm. (2) In the low-OH fiber and the single-mode fiber, by irradiation at the high dose rate there is large loss increment with the peak at a 840 nm band. (3) By the irradiation, large loss increment is observed in the large wavelength region beyond 1600 nm. (4) In the high-OH fiber, there appears large loss increment in the vicinity of 1400 nm.
