Computed tomography in algodystrophy of the knee

Description
Eight cases of algodystrophy of the knee investigated by computed tomography are reported. In 6 of the 8 cases, periarticular paracondylar capsule and ligament soft tissues were found to be abnormally thick. In 2 of these 6 cases, noticeable enhancement of the thickening of pericondylar capsule and ligament soft tissue was visible following injection of iodine, suggesting vascular engorgement; this enhancement was lacking in the four other cases, suggesting fibrosis. In certain difficult cases of knee joint disease, computed tomography may contribute usefully to the diagnosis of algodystrophy, avoiding useless or possibly detrimental procedures such as arthrography or arthroscopy

Les auteurs rapportent 8 observations d'algodystrophie du genou au cours desquelles une exploration scanographique a montre un epaississement des parties molles periarticulaires paracondyliennes capsulo-ligamentaires dans 6 cas sur 8. Dans 2 de ces 6 cas, l'injection d'iode a permis de montrer un net rehaussement de l'image d'epaississement capsulo-ligamentaire pericondylien, en faveur d'une stase vasculaire, tandis que dans les 4 autres cas l'absence de rehaussement apres injection d'iode serait en faveur d'un processus de fibrose. Une telle exploration scanographique pourrait dans certains cas difficiles d'arthropathie du genou, aider au diagnostic d'algodystrophie, en evitant certaines explorations inutiles, voire nuisibles, dans le cas particulier, comme l'arthrographie ou l'arthroscopieAdditional details
