Relation between thermal melting constants and energy characteristics for lanthanide trichloride crystals
Description
Crystal lattice energy, atomization energy, Ln-Cl bond energy and ionicity are calculated for lanthanide trichlorides. Relationships between thermal constants of LnCl3 melting and energy characteristics of their crystals are analyzed. It is shown that the relationships and their quantitative estimations can only be rather approximate and are not of general character. The structure, strength and character of interatomic forces for both condensed phases are to be taken into consideration for more accurate qualitative and quantitative estimations. 19 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs
