Role of the L = 1 baryon excitation in the giant electric dipole resonance

Description
A simple estimate, based on the quark model, is made of the effect of the odd parity baryon resonances N( and Δ( on the vector dipole excitations in the nucleus. Although the coupling between the nuclear and baryon L = 1 degrees of freedom seems to be much more relevant for the vector dipole fields than for the corresponding axial-vector ones, it still represents a minor effect
