Analysis of Mechanical and Thermal Consequences of Core Disruptive Accident: Approach for Current and Future SFRs

Description

Core disruptive accident scenario is defined and mechanical energy release is quantified, taking in to account the possible feedback mechanisms for 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR), which is under construction in India. Beyond, India is planning to construct six 500 MWe units adopting twin unit concept, called Commercial Fast Breeder Reactor (CFBR). Systematic mechanisms have been identified to improve the economy and enhance the safety. In this paper, the analysis results of mechanical and thermal consequences of core disruptive accident and safety features that are considered for the future reactors related to core disruptive accident are highlighted.
