The long-range effect in ion-implanted alloy Cu3Au

Description
The results are given of a field ion microscopy study of the structure of the ion-implanted ordered alloy Cu3Au. It is found that when the alloy is irradiated with argon ions with energy 20 keV at a rate 5.1016 ion/cm2 a long-range effect is manifested, which is interpreted as the formation of crystal lattice defects at defects at depths exceeding the ionic path length in the alloy. This effect arises for the whole range of implantation conditions used; that is, with ionic current densities in the pulse from 0.1 to 6 mA/cm, with pulse frequencies form 1 to 50 sec-1, pulse length 10-3sec. The main kinds of defect that arise as a result of irradiation are dislocation pile-ups, barriers and segregates of atoms of the same kind. (Author)
