High-current electron beam in an accelerating gap with a magnetic quadrupole system

Description

A study was made on the behaviour of high-current electron beam in accelerating gap with a magnetic quadrupole system. The beam has elliptical cross-section, the position of basic ellipse axis doesn't change in space at that. It is shown that for effective beam formation current carrying conductors of quadrupole system must be situated rather far from accelerated beam, so that their effect on electrostatic field was negligible. It requires sufficiently high currents, forming magnetic quadrupole system
