The paper summarizes the basic formulation of the compartmental simulation approach as a distributed parameter modelling methodology that can be employed for the quantitative interpretation of isotope and tracer data in hydrology. Application of the approach in the multi-aquifer groundwater system of the Bangkok Basin, in Thailand, is given as an illustration of the method for evaluating the spatial variations observed in isotope data.
