Plasma flows and fluctuations during H-modes in TFTR

Description

Popular theories of transitions to the H-mode regime are based on the concept of a fundamental interdependence of plasma poloidal and toroidal flows and plasma magnetic and density fluctuations. To understand the physics of the H-mode transition and confinement, the details of the characteristics of the H-mode rotation dynamics and correlations with fluctuations must be studied. In TFTR the transition is usually from a supershot and the resulting H-mode; the main change being a modest increase in confinement in the H-mode edge plasma (r/a > 0.8). (author) 7 refs., 4 figs
