Hydrogen absorption properties of Ti-V alloys: effect of Fe and Zr substitution

Description

Hydrogen absorption properties of Ti1-xVFex (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 and 0.4) alloys have been investigated. Among the various Fe substituted alloys studied here, the composition Ti0.85VFe0.15 shows the maximum hydrogen storage capacity of 3.7 wt%. With increasing Fe content the activation process becomes easier. Further, Ti0.85VFe0.15 composition, which is having the maximum hydrogen storage capacity, is modified by 5 at% Zr substitution in place of V. Zirconium substitution improves the hydrogen absorption-desorption characteristics of Ti0.85VFe0.15 alloy without affecting the maximum hydrogen storage capacity. Thermal desorption studies on the hydrides of selected compositions have been carried out. (author)
