Placental transfer of calcium and strontium and of their radionuclides

Description

The first part of the report deals with the occurrence and the chemistry of strontium and its radioisotopes, and the second part discusses the calcium and the strontium metabolism in man. General information on the biology and physiology of the human skeleton is given in part 3, whereas part 4 again discusses the calcium and strontium metabolism in man, however with particular emphasis on the conditions during pregnancy and lactation. Part 5 presents an evaluation of the literature in this subject field, concentrating on results obtained with experimental animals such as cows, swine, dogs, guinea pigs, rats, and mice, and discusses the applicability of these findings to the conditions in man. An annex presents data on the yttrium metabolism in man and animal. (MG)

Abstract (German)

Der vorliegende Bericht befasst sich im 1. Teil mit dem Vorkommen und der Chemie von Strontium und seinen Radioisotopen. Im 2. Teil wird der Calcium- und Strontium-Metabolismus des Menschen behandelt. Teil 3 bringt allgemeine Informationen ueber die Biologie und Physiologie des Skeletts. In Teil 4 wird entsprechend dem Thema des Berichtes der Calcium- und Strontium-Metabolismus waehrend der Schwangerschaft und der Laktation beim Menschen behandelt. Teil 5 bringt dann die Auswertung des Schrifttums zu diesem Thema bei ausgewaehlten Versuchstieren, naemlich Kuh, Schwein, Hund, Meerschweinchen, Ratte und Maus, sowie eine Diskussion zur moeglichen Uebertragbarkeit tierexperimenteller Daten auf den Menschen. In einem Anhang werden Daten zum Yttrium-Metabolismus bei Mensch und Tier vorgestellt. (MG)
