Description

The emission spectral and lifetime data of five Ru(II)-polypyridyl complexes indicate the importance of hydrophobic interactions between the ligands of Ru(NN)32+ and cationic surfactants. Though the addition of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) inhibits the rate of luminescence quenching of all five *Ru(NN)32+ with ArO- initially further increase in [CTAC] leads to different results which are explained in terms of electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions.
