Description
Cubic YbCu5 is a heavy fermion system with a electronic specific heat coefficient γ = 550 mJ/molK2 and shows a metamagnetic-like behavior around the field HM = 17T at low temperature. We have investigated the volume magnetostriction of cubic YbCu5 under the field up to 40T at 4.2K. A large negative volume striation was observed above the field of 10T. This indicates that the valence of Yb ion changes from a mixed-valent Fermi-liquid state at low field to a trivalent local moment state under high magnetic field. (author)
